What is the ISYS Search Deskband?
The ISYS Search Deskband enables you to install a search box into your Windows™ taskbar. The search box gives you quick and convenient access to search your ISYS indexes without the need to start ISYS Query to enter your search.

Starting with the ISYS Search Deskband
Once you have entered your search term, click the Search button or press Enter. ISYS Query will launch and display the results of your search. By default, ISYS will search the last index opened in ISYS Query or ISYS Utilities.
Using the ISYS Search Deskband
You can specify which ISYS index you would like to search by clicking the ISYS Logo next to the Search Box, which launches the options menu. The options menu shows you all the indexes listed in your catalog. Clicking on an individual index means that all searches from the ISYS Search Deskband will be of this index.

ISYS Search Deskband Preferences

Query Type
ISYS Query supports many different forms of query syntax. This option enables you to specify which query format you wish to use when searching from the ISYS Search Deskband. These options include:
ISYS Style |
Enables the user to quickly build accurate queries with push-button Boolean and proximity operators. |
Natural Language |
Allows users to quickly search by entering a question in plain English. |
Web Style |
Relies on standard Internet search syntax to enable users to search their documents in the same way they search the Internet. |
Enable Auto Complete
Specifies whether you want ISYS to complete entries when you type searches in the ISYS Search Deskband based on searches you have typed previously.
Remember Index Selection
Specifies whether ISYS should remember the last index that you searched on using the ISYS Search Deskband.
Show Results in Context
Specifies that ISYS should show the search results using Context view. Context view provides a 'snapshot' of each document in your result list. For each document in the list, a brief extract of every occurrence of the search terms is displayed. Context view results lists can also be printed or extracted and saved as a .txt or .csv file.
Open First Document
Specifies that the first document from the result list should automatically be opened when a search is executed.
Hot Key
The hot key enables you to execute a search from any application, including web browsers, word processors or email clients. You will not need to install any ISYS toolbars, as was the case with previous ISYS:desktop versions. This feature will work from any Windows-based application that supports the standard copy function.
To use, simply highlight the text upon which you wish to search, hold down the Windows key, which has the symbol on it, and press the hot key that you have specified.
Automatically Execute Query
When this option is enabled, the search is executed immediately when the hot key is pressed. This provides a rapid and convenient method for performing searches on text within web pages or documents you are viewing.
When this option is disabled, using the hot key will place the selected text in the ISYS Search Deskband. You can then make any setting changes before executing the search, or simply press Enter to execute the search.
