Understanding your Catalog List
The Catalog allows ISYS Query users to switch between indexes
without having to navigate through the drive and directory structure.
To view your Catalog List
Click the 'Open an existing ISYS index' icon on the toolbar
or select 'File' then 'Open'. The 'Select an ISYS Index' window
will open.
Click on the 'Catalog' tab:
The icons relate to whether the catalog entry is visible only to you
or to all users .
They do not affect your ability to open indexes.
Click once to select the index you wish to use and click 'OK'. You will
be returned to ISYS Utilities / ISYS Query.
Change View
You can change the view of the Catalog to a list display.
Right-click anywhere in the Catalog tab.
Select 'Change View' then 'List Only'
The list view will now be displayed
Note: this option is only available
with ISYS:desktop version 6.00b and above.
Editing the Catalog
The Catalog also has the following editing options. Note
that Catalog entries need to be added using the Disk Directory or at the
completion of the creation of a new index.
Edit catalog entry. Change the name of a catalog entry. Right-click
on the entry and select 'Edit'. The entry name will be highlighted. Type
the new name and press [ENTER].
Delete catalog entry. Click the entry you wish to remove and press
[DEL], or right-click and select 'delete'.
Note: this does not delete the actual ISYS index.
Catalog entry types:
- Personal Index Catalog - The index has been added to the catalog listing
particular to your local machine.
These are identified in your Catalog listing with a single blue figure:

- Shared Index Catalog - The index has been added to the catalog
listing stored on the ISYS file server and made available to all users
across the network.
These are identified in your Catalog listing by a group of figures with a hand underneath:
- Web Catalog - This catalog is only available if you have the
ISYS:web product. These are identified in your Catalog listing by
the ISYS:web logo:
Adding to the Catalog
Open ISYS Query or ISYS Utilities.
Select 'File' then 'Open'.
Click the 'Disk Directory' tab, select the folder in which your index
is located. The index name appears in the bottom left of the main window.
Note that you need the folder containing the index, not the
folder containing the files being indexed - the two are not necessarily
the same thing.
Click 'Add to Catalog'.
Note: This button is disabled if the index you have currently
selected is already in the catalog, or if the folder you have selected
does not contain an index.
The following window will display:
a. Provide a name for the catalog entry, or accept the default name
(this is the name of the actual index, as set up when creating a new
index).
b. Select whether you want the entry to appear in 'My personal index catalog' (visible
only to you) or in 'Shared index catalog' (visible to all users of the
ISYS indexes - for networked versions).
c. Click 'OK'. The index has been given an entry in the Catalog.
The indexes can be viewed by clicking the 'Catalog' tab.
Entries in the catalog can be deleted by pressing 'delete' on your keyboard
or
right-clicking and selecting 'Delete this index'.
