ISYS:desktop 9 Features
ISYS:desktop 9 has a host of capabilities designed to help you derive even greater value from desktop search. Features like On-The-Fly Categorization, ISYS Entities, Intelligent Query Expansion and parametric refinement options go beyond basic full-text search to enable navigation and discovery across PCs and corporate networks. Below you will find just a handful of features that ISYS:desktop offers.
Search
To quickly and easily identify the right information, ISYS offers multiple search methods and options.
- Broad search functionality. ISYS searches every type of data, including unstructured or full
text, semi-structured and structured; more than 200 formats are supported, in 60 languages.
- Where’s my email? Never lose an email again, thanks to ISYS’ email search capabilities. Search email fields, full text and attachments, with lightning speed.
- Multiple Query Methods. ISYS understands different users require different kinds of search
methods. Multiple methods are available, ranging from Natural Language, Web Style and
the easy point-and-click Menu-Assisted mode through to the advanced Command-Based
mode using the ISYS Query Syntax. ISYS also offers Boolean and proximity operators, phrase
matching, fielded searches, and Sounds Like and Starts With options.
- Intelligent Query Expansion. Designed to give users greater context and avenues to pursue, ISYS offers expanded search suggestions based on your query and the document set. For example, a search for "SharePoint" might suggest "advanced SharePoint search" or "SharePoint search web part."
- ISYS Taskbar Search Window provides a ubiquitous search function that offers the
convenience of entering a query directly in the taskbar.
- The Intelligent Agent is ISYS’ built-in push technology that periodically performs searches for
you and sends an automatic notification when relevant new data enters the system.
- Intelligent numbers and dates.
ISYS recognizes numbers and dates in documents regardless of how they
are expressed. So you can enter 1/1/02 and receive results that contain
"1st Jan 2002", "1 Jan 02", "01/01/2002"
and so on.
- Date and number range searching. ISYS can search for dates and numbers within a specified range.
- Multi-lingual support. ISYS
searches most Asian and European languages, including: English, French, German,
Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Cyrillic, Russian, Thai, Bahasa, Greek,
Hebrew, Turkish, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, Japanese,
Vietnamese and Arabic. Multi-language indexes are available with Unicode.
- Synonym rings enable you to
customize associations between terms, so that your search for a particular
term will also find documents containing the synonyms you specified.
For example, an investigator could search for a suspect named 'Harold
Cartrock' and also find documents that contain the suspect's known aliases,
whether they be 'Harry', 'Rocko' or 'Mr. Big'.
- Fuzzy logic is used to automatically
adjust for many OCR scanning or typographical errors that occur when
you scan in documents for searching.
Navigation
Once a search is executed and results are returned, ISYS:desktop offers several
navigation features designed to help you quickly pinpoint the right information.
- On-the-fly categorization. ISYS:desktop automatically interprets your data at indexing time to categorize your content. Subsequently, when users perform searches, these categories are invoked and displayed in the results window, which enables users to further refine a results list and help them find information faster.
- Parametric Refinement. Through its Dynamic Metadata Clustering capabilities, ISYS:desktop's parametric refinement options enable you to drill down based on document metadata. ISYS makes note of commonly recurring meta information found in your documents and highlights this as a refinement category. It could be the document's author, or an email's sender. By expanding the refinement cues we offer, we help you find your information fast.
- Search within results to narrow down the results list by conducting another query on those documents in the list.
- Filtering enables you to narrow down the results list by displaying only those results with a specified file name, file path or date. Using this feature, you can display only documents of a certain format, such as "*.pdf".
- Quick View provides a 'snapshot' of each document in your result list. For each document in the list, a context extract of every occurrence of the search terms is displayed. Quick View results lists can also be printed or extracted and saved as a .txt or .csv file.
- Preview pane. To ensure even faster retrieval of information, the ISYS:desktop search tool now offers a preview pane, thus allowing users to view the contents of a result (with hit highlighting and navigation enabled), without having to first launch the document in the ISYS browser or its native format.
- Hit Highlighting displays each search term with a highlighted background, so you can see exactly where they occur within a document.
- Hit-To-Hit Navigation. ISYS not only highlights your search terms in found documents, but allows you to jump from one hit to the next with a single click. No more scrolling through long documents to find what you've found! This works between documents as well as between hits within a single document.
- Results grouping/clustering. ISYS:desktop enables users to logically group the list of results according to relevance, number of hits, file format or one of a variety of other variables. Without the ability to sift and sort results in this manner, users aren't saving as much time as they could be with search.
- Security. ISYS maintains the access and security configuration of your existing data, so users won't see results from document that they don't have permission to view.
- 'Did You Mean?' feature. In instances where ISYS:desktop finds few or no relevant results for a query, it will call upon its 'Did You Mean?' feature to suggest potential alternatives. Unlike other products, ISYS will never suggest an alternative that doesn't exist in a user's index.
- You can Hide results that don't interest you, removing them from the results list.
- The Annotation feature provides you with the ability to attach notes to existing documents without modifying the document itself. You can also add graphics, embedded queries and hyperlinks to other relevant documents and hyper-applications, which allow you to open other applications while in ISYS.
- You can Extract the results of your query to a printer, an email or to a .txt or .csv file. ISYS:desktop offers the ability to extract all information present in a result list.
- Metadata and document information hinting. Hover your cursor over a result and ISYS:desktop will display all known metadata and document information in tool tip format.
- Rich SQL templates for databases. Rich SQL presents databases through a template, designed by the user, displaying the records in a manner appropriate to the knowledge contained in the database. ISYS also provides an HTML Editing Suite for creating and previewing Rich SQL templates. Add background pictures, define and layout fields, turn hit highlighting on and off, or change the color - the presentation is all in the hands of the user.
Discovery
Find information you didn’t know existed via entity extraction and pinpoint content
through in-document highlighting and navigation. In doing so, you gain greater context and can
identify associations and connections between your search and existing content.
- ISYS Entities highlights the "Who, What and Where" of your search by automatically extracting
and displaying entities such as people, organizations, email addresses and more. Simply
click on one of these entities to refine your search and discover more.
- Timeline Refinement Bar. ISYS now provides you with the ability to instantly refine your results using our visual histogram. Hone in on a specific date range using the click-and-drag sliders you'll find above the results list. Identifying and culling discovery documents by timeframe has never been easier.
- Review Flags. Customers in the legal and e-discovery markets or those needing to conduct analysis on their results will benefit from our new Review Flags. Now users can flag results and perform actions on just those results. ISYS offers six different flag colors, for which you can create custom labels. Once flagged, you can copy results, print them or extract, not to mention employ any number of custom built macros that help take users beyond search.
- Tabbed Searching. Need to analyze multiple queries side by side? Open new search tabs and you can compare various results with ease, all from within a single ISYS:desktop window.
- Associated Documents. Also designed to give your searches greater context, ISYS:desktop
now displays an icon in the document view window whenever a particular search result
has an associated document. This could be a document with an annotation or an
attachment associated with an email.
Administration
Installing and configuring ISYS:desktop is fast and easy, thus ensuring you can have an enterprise-class search solution up and running in a matter of hours, not days or weeks.
- Centralized Management. Helping save substantial time and resources, administrators can centrally manage their ISYS:desktop search deployment across their entire base of PCs. All from a single location, administrators can deploy ISYS:desktop to multiple PCs, configure options and push them out via Group Policy.
- Search Form Designer. ISYS recognizes that each enterprise has a unique set of users who have varying methods for searching their content. Our easy-to-use Search Form Designer gives administrators the ability to custom-build query forms that address their users' specific needs.
- Multiple indexing options. With ISYS:desktop, users can now select from a list of indexing options that range from basic to highly sophisticated. Beginner users can select the 'My Documents and emails' or 'My Internet history' index wizards, which index data using a pre-selected set of default options, whereas the 'Specific folder and file types' wizard offers advanced users greater control over indexing options.
- Index more than 200 file formats.
Whatever format your documents are in, chances are that ISYS can index
them. ISYS recognizes and indexes more than 200 file formats, including
Microsoft Office documents, email messages, HTML, XML, Lotus Notes,
SQL databases, FTP, MP3 and ACT! Contact Management files. ISYS indexes
email attachments in Microsoft Outlook, Exchange and Outlook Express.
It also indexes and searches document summary profiles, including titles
for PDF files, Word and WordPerfect documents and HTML meta-tags. Find
out more about the file formats that
ISYS can index.
- Up to 64 million documents per
index. ISYS is capable of indexing up to 64 million documents per
index, and there is no limit on how many indexes you may create and chain. By
linking your indexes together, you can search across billions of documents with a single query.
- Maximum Index Size. ISYS has made dramatic increases in its maximum index size, with Version 9 now offering a max index size of 384GB (up from 24GB in previous versions). This gives users the ability to index as much as 2 TB to 4TB of data per index.
- Leave your data exactly how it is. There is only one thing you have to do with your files before
they can be indexed with ISYS -- nothing! ISYS indexes your files as
they are. There is no need to move them, summarize them, copy them or
change their format in any way. As long as you have access to a file,
you can index it.
- Automate indexing with the ISYS Scheduler. ISYS Scheduler takes much of the effort out of the day-to-day
routine of keeping your indexed information up to date. You can 'set
and forget' index updates, re-indexes or optimizations so that the latest
information in your knowledge base is automatically at your fingertips.
