ISYS:web Agent hits Internet World
Sydney October 1
Internet World 99 saw the release of the latest search technology innovation
from Sydney based ISYS/ ISYS Search Software.
Organizations that employ ISYS:web to provide free text search capability
for their Internet or intranet site can now unleash an intelligent agent
on their knowledge base. Site visitors can lodge their area of interest
and when relevant information is posted to the site, the agent will instantly
inform them via e-mail.
The ISYS:web agent represents the latest in a series of evolutionary
enhancements to the ISYS family of web and intranet solutions in response
to end-user demand for increased knowledge exploitation in web based search
and document delivery environments. The core component of the ISYS solution
is ISYS:web, incorporating on-the-fly HTML conversion from legacy data
in over 70 file formats combined with precision search capability.
ISYS continues to incorporate new features to extend the versatility
and usability of their web-based products. As well as the new agent, additions
include Rich HTML and SQL viewing options that display legacy formats
through the browser with full representation of the textual and graphical
mark-up of the original authoring tool.
Also available is the optional ISYS:spider that allows specified external
web sites to be indexed and seamlessly incorporated into an organization's
internal knowledge base. The ISYS:web agent ensures that your site visitors
or internal intranet users are made aware when information, in which they
have expressed interest, becomes available. Users can configure any number
of agents to search for new material that is important or of interest
to them. As new information is added to the knowledge base, the agent
checks to see if it matches the query set for him. If it does, then he
notifies his user immediately by e-mail.
With ISYS:web, there is no lag time between new information being produced
and the group accessing it because of the ISYS:web on-the-fly conversion.
All notification of new information is done via e-mail with a choice of
varying levels of detail. ISYS is looking at other ways of notification
in the future such as ICQ and messages to pagers or mobile phones.
The agent is scalable across multiple servers and need not infringe
on the usual practices of the company server. There is an option to having
a dedicated server for the agent and if traffic builds, it is easy to
add more boxes with no side effects.
"With the ISYS Agent, we are further refining the knowledge process,"
said Andrew Sharp, Sales & Marketing Manager. "The Agent lets
you get very specific about what you need and then automatically continues
to feed you that information. It is like a personalized news service.
This is the way information distribution is going - people only want to
access what is relevant or of interest to them, they don't have
time to filter through everything that is available to them."
